Why I Don’t Like Professional Resume Writers?

I am wondering from quite a time how to find the right words to describe why I don’t like the occupation of a professional resume writer. I don’t mind people practicing that activity. It’s just that I think they should stop drumming into our heads the idea that if we don’t use their services, we won’t write successful resumes and cover letters. I personally find the difference between “should” and “must”. How do you think, there’s a difference, isn’t there?
In favor of objectivity let me tell yo… Continue

What is the Real Benefit of the Cover Letter?

Has it ever occurred to you to search the answer of a certain question and find it right under your nose? I think that during my search for examples of cover letters I read more than 400 of them. And something irritated me in most of them: their first sentence. In most cases it’s something of the kind: “Concerning your advertisement in “X” newspaper or “Y” job portal I’d like to… ” Well, tell me what’s unique in this sentence? How the employer will read a few hundred similar beginnings of cover… Continue

JOB SEARCH TECHNIQUES? OR HAS THE CIRCUS COME TO TOWN?

As the job situation becomes more desperate, so the job search techniques become more outlandish. Whilst personal branding and networking have now become established and successful methods to seek out opportunities in the hidden job market, is parading the streets wearing a sandwich board likely to catch on?
This was the approach taken by a couple of despondent jobseekers, one of whom spent a week handing out his resumes on the corner of 50th and Park Avenue to further his pursuit of a job on Wa… Continue

‘IT IS MORE BLESSED TO GIVE THAN TO RECEIVE’ – MAKE YOUR NETWORKING EXPERIENCE ABOUT OTHERS AND WATCH YOUR STRESS LEVELS DECREASE

The very mention of the word ‘networking’ strikes fear into the hearts of many a jobseeker. It conjures up images of an old boy’s network, a packed room filled with confident, professional people chatting amiably and authoritatively, and you standing in the wings with pounding heart and sweating palms, too afraid to join in.

How do I know all this? Simple – because we are all the same. Whilst it might seem as though some people are born to networking or public speaking or the performing arts, n… Continue

I, EXPERT

In these times of rapidly rising unemployment and increasing competition, jobseekers are turning their thoughts more and more to the question of how to stand out from the competition. Whilst some have resorted to the novelty factor by employing some rather unusual and attention-seeking job search techniques, others continue to stick to their tried and trusted methods of responding to job advertisements and signing up with employment agencies.
At the end of the day, in order to achieve success in… Continue
