Question by remote_riley: Can a laid off temp worker file for unemployment checks?
My friend keeps asking for money. I’m confused by his statement. He used to work for a temp agency and was recently laid off. He said he is unable to file for unemployment checks, that all he can get is food stamps. Can you really not get unemployment checks from a temp agency? I assumed it would be the same for anyone, because there is an employee and an employer.

A temporary job has a defined start and end (like, when the temporary work is over) so the person does not qualify for unemployment checks.

working for a temp agency and being a temporary employee are two totally different things.
if a person worked full-time for an agency and is laid-off from the agency they qualify just as any other laid-off employee would.
if a person is hired as a temporary employee with a set employment of less then 6 months then often they will not qualify based just on that employer. that does not mean they can not file or won’t qualify based on previous employment.
either way the only sure way to know is to file for unemployment insurance.
there is a lot more to qualifying then just why the job was lost or if they worked full-time/permanaent.
