Is being unemployed affect your process of becoming a cop?

Question by EVE559: Is being unemployed affect your process of becoming a cop?
I just got laid off my job, and I”m applying for deputy sheriff’s. I passed the written/physical test, now I must submitted a personal history statement to my background investigator. I”m just curious, if being unemployed would make me look bad and not get the job, because I know they are strict on a lot of things.

No, as long as you can account for why you were out of work. If you were laying around smoking pot all day they might frown on that. But if you got laid off January 1st. And have been applying for law enforcement jobs ever since they will probably view that in a positive manner.

Mark T has a valid point. If you’re recently unemployed, and it shows you’re actively looking for employment, I would think that would go in your favour. At least you’re not lazing around doing nothing. Never, ever lie on a job application, resume or anything for that matter. Surely you’ve stated ‘why’ you’re not working and how it happened. Let me assure you, the Background Investigator will get to the truth. Yes, police services are strict on a lot of things, but the truth is something they won’t compromise.
