How do I file for unemployment and more other question?

Question by Nidwal: How do I file for unemployment and more other question?
First off, I’m trying to help this old lady about mid 50ish that lives close to me. Well this is kind of confusing so I’m here. She is a Homecare provider for her husband and not too long ago her husband pass away. She ask me(19year old) to see if she can get unemployment but from what I know, you have to get fire form a job. So can she still get unemployment in this case and also how would I go about to apply for unemployment for her. I heard something about ett or edd that help but I’m not sure if (ett or edd) —(something I heard) is what I need to check out. I’m in California so please help me out.

If there is website to do this, can you please help put it down?

If she was caring for her husband, not working at a paying job, then she wouldn’t be eligible for unemployment compensation.

EDD is Employment Development Department, the department that administers unemp comp in CA.

And hey, watch it, kid – mid 50′s isn’t old.

To get unemployment you have to have worked for a company that paid into unemployment. It sounds like she was not really paid, she just did this because it was her husband, at least that what it souds like. I could be wrong. Moreover, she may have had another job before that.

Regardless, sounds like she needs to talk to someone that can provide her some answers. She should hgo to the unemployment office that is where you would file and they will tell you if you are eligible. They can retrieve the information that is needed. Moreover she can also have them asist her in finding another job or profession. There are all types of programs that she may qualify for.

Sounds like she is used to leaning on her husband. it would be greta if you wouod be a good samaritian and bring her to the unemploment office, especially for her first visit. After that she will meet her counselor and she will be more at ease.
