Question by jjenki32: What can I do about paying child support while unemployed?
I live in Louisiana and I have been unemployed for about 6 months now. I have continuously been looking for jobs (any jobs) and am not having any luck. I have been getting help from my girlfriend to pay my child support but that is becoming a strain on her budget since she doesnt make much. Can I get my child support payments lowered until I secure a job or do I have to pay this even though I have no income at the moment?

You should have made a motion for modification as soon as you lost your job. Do it now.

do what my granddaughter does because her husband won’t pay child support and has not since they split in March of this year. BABYSIT, CLEAN HOUSE, SELL YOUR THINGS, DO whatever you can…stand on the corner of your street and beg if you have to…but that child needs you to get off your butt and get something even if it is McDonalds.
What is that child supposed to do for support? What is that child supposed to do for a roof over his head or food in his tummy or even CHRISTMAS? Stop thinking of yourself and get something even if it is going into the parking lots and picking up change off the street. Goodness….why is it women are supposed to figure out how to raise the children and get food into their stomachs and provide the basics…but when dad can’t pay…he wants it lowered and whines about it. I work as a Guardian Ad Litem for Juvenile court and the excuses I hear from men about not being able to pay…while the women sit there and talk about how creative they are about finding food because they are hungry and living with relatives because daddy won’t pay is amazing. WOMEN ROCK….they take it all on their shoulders and take care of the kids ….and daddy takes the credit when it is time for visitation and kids think daddy is so great when mommy is the hero!
FIND A JOB DOING ANYTHING..even if it is being a honey dipper and cleaning septics…but PROVIDE FOR THAT CHILD!
THINK OF THAT CHILD first…and get a job at McDonalds or Burger King ……

modify it asap. you should have done this when you lost your job. your gf is an angel but she shouldnt pay for your kids, thats wrong. go to the nearest child support office and file for modification. im sure your getting unemployment benefits, if so, you will pay a portion from that.

Nope yu have to pay no matter what. Next time try being responsible and not having kids if your not willing to pay for them.
