I am currently employed full time and go to school full time, but my company is laying me off. I was told you can’t receive unemployment while in school, but I’m not sure if that is only for people who work, get laid off, then go back to school. Also, how is financial aid affect? How does financial aid affect unemployment eligibility?
Thank you for you help.

Just file your claim for unemployment and go from there. Make sure you list all and answer all questions honestly. Let the unemployment bureau make this decision for you. You may be entitled to full benefits or partial to none at all. So just file unemployment.

I agree with the person that said to just file unemployment honestly, and go from there. But u should go to your financial aid office and talk with them about it. Maybe they have much more detailed advice.
file and find out – every state has their own rules – don’t even mention school
In Georgia yes you can receive unemployment while being a full time student as long as you were laid off at no fault of your own.
In some cases there is a program called W.I.A. they assist with the expense of school. it is run by a local committee and your local employment office will have a list of what classes the community feels are in need of now that they will pay for.
Going to school has nothing to do with your unemployment benefits. If you have worked full time for a certain period (I believe one year), and you are laid off due to lack of work and not fired because you didn’t perform your job satisfactory, then you’re entitled to the unemployment benefits. Maximum amount you can receive is about $ 1500 a month depending on the income. I believe you’re entitled to collect unemployment for 9 months. You need to fill out your unemployment claim and talk to the unemployment office regarding your situation. Good luck
You have to be able and ready to accept work…….if you a full time student you are not ready and able to accept work…….if you don’t answer the weekly report honestly your subject to fraud…….a felony……….you have to tell them your a full time student………in Michigan anyway……just file and let them sort it out………Financial aid and unemployment….double dipping……….sorry………
Although specific eligibility requirements vary from state to state, most states have the same basic standards for collecting unemployment benefits. They include:
-You must be unemployed or working less than full time
-You must meet certain income requirements
-You must be ready, willing, and able to work
-You must have involuntarily left your job
In general, you won’t be eligible for benefits if:
-You quit your job simply because you didn’t like it
-You’re fired for committing a crime (e.g., stealing)
-You’ve never worked before
In your situation, it seems to be qualified, but I’d recommend you to go ahead and call your local unemployment office, and get a clear answer.
it is possible to receive unemployment and go to school BUT if a job is available and you do not take it because of your school schedule you will most likely become ineligible……….
if you are layed-off you need to file and go through the appeal process if need be. the state unemployment office can’t/won’t give you a definitive answer about your case until you file. there are simply too many variables for anyone to give you a definitive answer until you file and ALL the facts and circumstances are investigated……………..
the only certain thing about unemployment is NOTHING is definite until you file and a final decision is made by the state.
