you can buy an individual policy..do alot of price shopping.. see who has the best plan… I have a MSA now but when I was self employed and I had an individual policy.. I always went with a high deductable and payed alot less that way.. I pay for my dr. visits out of pocket too.. Many doctors have a “cash” price.. Even when I had insurance I did that.. then I would submit my receipt to my ins company myself.. they sent me the check.. I want my doctor focusing on my health, not arguing with ins. companies.. and if you need to go to the hospital you can negotiate the price after the fact… I got my x-ray for my son knocked in 1/2 that way.. They overcharge because they know the ins companies will negotiate as well..
IN SOME STATES (MAYBE ALL)THE COMPANY YOU LEAVE IS REQUIRED TO OFFER YOU TO BUY THEIR INSURANCE FOR A SET PERIOD OF TIME
Your company has to offer you your insurance thru COBRA for 18 months. It is very expensive. You would have the same coverage you currently have. My company paid my health insurance. When I left the company the cost of COBRA was $ 488.00 per month. All of the other companies were just as high and some for LESS coverage. It is very difficult out there without insurance.
Let’s hope all that changes in the 2008 election. Perhaps we can all have affordable health insurance no matter where we work or who we are……………….
