When I was laid off I quickly realized keeping busy was the key to remaining "sane" in this difficult job market.

I started to ride a bike with local bike club almost daily. During the trout season I made an effort to be "out in the water" at least 3 times a week. I began to attend free wine tastings and wine classes offered by local vineyards and restaurants. I thought about other people who also may be in need but in some different arena; so I volunteered at the Ronald McDonald's house cooking and preparing dinners for families with sick children.

My top priority or goal was to spend as much time outside as possible and avoided watching television during the week. All of these activities kept my life a bit more exciting and I started to look forward to each day instead of worrying. Of course I dedicated many hours to job hunting as well and I knew eventually I'll find something. Keeping my mind and body clear while doing these activities definitely helped me to stay more relaxed, calm and worry-free.

So that is worked for me, how about you?

Bit of an old post, but I'll reply anyway:)

I've taken up squash again and am teaching myself web design in the evenings (after job hunting during the day)

Curiously enough, I was thinking about this the other day and had an idea

Would people who are unemployed and therefore have time on their hands want to actively help out members of their commnunity using the skills they have?
If people could reply to that question I would appreciate it :)

I know I would if there was some organization or group looking for help.
