The Federal Government needs to hire approximately 600,000 people by the year 2012, but if you have ever attempted to apply for a federal job you know that it's very cumbersome. Writing a resume for a federal job is nothing like writing a resume for the private sector. In most cases you will need help from someone that has already went through the painful process. If you don’t have access to someone from the inside that is willing to help, then you will find yourself doing endless research trying to figure it out.

Jim I agree, it is a tortuous process. I have worked for the Forest Service in the past, and it was a real pain to fill out those forms but you can get through it. Of course it's all changed since the early 80s. You can do stuff online but stuff just seems to disappear....not sure all the links are connected on some federal jobsites. I applied for an Army Corps job through USA jobs but could never be sure all my data made it to the right places or got uploaded properly. California state jobs are just as bad if not worse. First you have to figure out if there is an exam required, take the exam, get on a list, wait forever, and you're never sure of your status! grrrr....
