I am wondering from quite a time how to find the right words to describe why I don’t like the occupation of a professional resume writer. I don’t mind people practicing that activity. It’s just that I think they should stop drumming into our heads the idea that if we don’t use their services, we won’t write successful resumes and cover letters. I personally find the difference between “should” and “must”. How do you think, there’s a difference, isn’t there?
In favor of objectivity let me tell you what do I like in such kind of services.
• They’re doing this every day meaning them being professionals in their own field;
• They know how to manifest those of your qualities and skills employers are searching for;
• The same way as there are services for filling in tax declarations, cleaning, car or house repairs, the same way the existence of such a profession seems logical;
• Everybody decides on his own how and in what a way to make a living.
I think that this is the place where I should stop with the superlatives concerning professional resume writers. There are a lot of things that I don’t like and I don’t know why people tend to keep silent about it.
I don’t like professional resume writers, because:
• I’ve received no guarantee anywhere, that if I use such a service, I’ll go to an interview! I know this is a service, but our resumes and cover letters represent the product of this service. When I bought my laptop I automatically received 3 years of international guarantee. It’s the same with most of the products. Why there’s no such a guarantee here?
• I am more and more convinced that many warm relationships have been established between employers and professional resume writers and the result is that we, who search for new jobs, are suffering from the that fact. (I’ll write on that topic very soon)
• I personally did the house repairs last summer on my own! I watched a lot of clips in youtube.com, I bought a few “Do it yourself” books and I managed excellently! Why not use the professional advices, recommendations, books or software and do the job myself? Would I do something against the law?
• I can give a lot of advices on house repairs, building materials, etc. But I understand nothing of hardware maintenance, for example. How then a professional resume writer can compose successful resumes and cover letters for all industries? Can a man know about everything? If you’ve met such a guy, write to me and I’ll at least buy him a beer!
I think I’ll stop here for now! How do you think?
